James Hennessey, an employee of the Coastal Eagle Point Oil Company, appeals a lower court's ruling in his suit against the company's drug testing policy. Hennessey was dismissed after he posted a positive result for marijuana in a random drug test.. He filed suit against the company, claiming its policy violated constitutionally protected rights.

A trial court ruled in favor of Hennessy. The company appealed that decision. The Superior Court, Appellate Division, reversed the lower court's ruling. The appellate court ruled that that the company's testing program did not violate Hennessey's rights. Hennessey now appeals.

Hennessey loses. The Supreme Court of New Jersey affirmed the judgment of the lower jurisdiction. The court ruled the company's testing program did not violate public policy.
